Sometimes, the WTJU Rock Top 30 speaks in complete sentences; a while ago, we had consecutively-ranked artists tell us that “Strange Boys Spoon Dum Dum Girls.” More recently, “Girls Fucked Up Patti Smith.”

On other occasions, the chart contains secret messages with obscure yet compelling resonances. This week, for instance, we have:

17. Beach Boys
18. Bees
19. Beets

What does Be, Be, Be signify? Or is it Be, Bee, Bee? I don’t know!  Ditto this eerie echo, later in the chart:

24. Apple Brains
25. Apparat

Apps galore. Is this Steve Jobs speaking to WTJU listeners from beyond the grave? Probably not. But what, then?!

More obvious messages sometimes occur. Looking at album titles, we learn that:

23. Watered Lawns
24. Get Fruity

Sounds banal, but perhaps this is a taunt, given the impending winter months? Perhaps it is, as vegetation appears throughout the chart: Beets and Apple Brains, as well as Limes (#28).

The Top 30 Chart can be a harsh mistress. Stay tuned for more scintillating analysis in weeks to come.
