stephen malkmus gives WTJU some love

Frontman of the newly reunited Pavement (and former WTJU disc jockey) Stephen Malkmus gives WTJU a whole lot of credit in an excellent recent piece by Chuck Klosterman for GQ:

The source material for our music had more to do with going to the University of Virginia. That was when I got into Can and the Clean and the Velvet Underground. Before that, I just liked dumb teenage punk. I thought Social Distortion was high art.

Though he doesn't mention WTJU by name, it's fairly common knowledge that Malkmus (along with future Pavement drummer Bob Nastanovich) spent lots of time in the stacks at WTJU, looking for only the best bands to steal from. Read the rest of the interview here.
