Former Charlottesville resident and University of Virginia MFA graduate Gina Welch stopped by my show to play some tunes and talk about her recent novel, In The Land Of Believers: An Insider's Extraordinary Journey Into The Heart Of The Evangelical Church. Gina and I have been friends since she started on this project, and it was truly a joy and an honor to have her on my show to discuss her wonderful tale, as well as to share some of her favorite music.
A lucky listener was able to call in and win a signed copy of the book donated by the UVA Bookstore, and I am grateful for the bookstore's contribution.
In celebration of Gina's visit, I prepared a playlist of rock and jazz tunes that mention Jesus/Christianity/God, though they're not all specifically devotional songs. Gina's selections marked by asterisks were a little less religious in scope, though that Clean song is about as heavenly as it can get.
